LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Tiz Chrome, a Bob Baffert-trained colt who was being pointed to the Derby Trial next weekend, broke down in a Sunday workout at Churchill Downs and had to be euthanized on the racetrack.

With Dana Barnes aboard, and working in company, Tiz Chrome suffered a compound fracture of his left front leg, according to track officials. Barnes was not injured, nor were any other horses or riders. The incident occurred shortly after all Kentucky Derby and Oaks horses had cleared the track following the 8:30-8:45 a.m. Eastern window reserved solely for them.

Baffert made a private purchase of Tiz Chrome, by Tiznow, on behalf of the partnership of Terry Lanni, Ernie Moody, and Bernie Schiappa after the colt posted an impressive maiden win for trainer Allen Crupper last November in his career debut at Churchill Downs. The colt was taken off the Derby trail after his final race, a fourth-place finish in February in the Robert Lewis Stakes at Santa Anita.

Wow, that's absolutely horrible. I was actually going to post about Tiz Chrome this past week, nothing to do with his current training, but just the fact that some places are still offering him @ 30/1 to win the Derby. It's ridiculous the way they never raise any prices in the Vegas future books (not that he ever should've been 30/1 to begin with). Incidentally, some of the sheets around town are still 200 names long. Don't let that graded earnings thing get in the way...
