Charles resigns as Santa Anita president

ARCADIA, Calif. - Santa Anita president Ron Charles has resigned, effective at the end of business Wednesday.
Charles confirmed his resignation Tuesday morning.
"It's been something I have been thinking about for a long time," he said.
Charles said he met privately Sunday with Frank Stronach, chairman of Santa Anita's parent company Magna International Developments, to inform him of the resignation.
"I told him it was time to step down," Charles said.
Charles has been president at Santa Anita for 5 1/2 years.
