Playback Horses To Consider

Here are a few horses out of my extensive horses to watch "playback file." Years ago when I was writing the workout tab for the Southern California Weekly Racing Report a clocked named John Wilson got me to incorporate "negative lengths" in my commentary. I include lengths lost in my commentary. Keep in mind my lengths lost are placed inside a parenthesis(-1) and are always consistently concervative. The most a horse can lose at the break is (-5) and I seldom get to that number. When you see the negative notations in my comment, you know the ground loss was significant.
We pay attention fo horses caught inside on a "live" pace. Horses, just like humans, have a comfort level. I once asked famed Bill Shoemaker why horses move more freely outside foes than inside. His answer? "They just do."
We look for horses who get rattled around between horses, or pinballed. This is a negative and by watching the head-on shots we can pick up little nuggets that may pay dividends down the line. Sometimes we can tell when a horse is simply not comfortable with his positioning. There are those instances when a horse may be pushed in or pushed out when riders are jockeying for position. All these things impact the lengths beaten line. We also give extra points to horses who move well in traffic.
For some of the above reasons that is why I am not a sheets man. I have always maintained the sheets, no matter how good their staff, do not include ajustments for a horse that may be caught three wide on a four-horse speed duel and fades. or, how about the horse who is compromised by the lack of "tempo?" Race shape plays a huge part in the final outcome of many a race.
Here are a few horses you might want to follow. Keep in mind the date at the end of the comment signifies the comments were made after that race. Some of these replays do get past us so make sure to match the date with the running line in the Racing Form.
Close to the Edge--"Wow! huge late surge when rider used waiting tactics; broke clean in wide path, was a bit green and fell out last(-1-1/2), trailed to the top, caught hold, finished with a rush; 6-20.
Developing Story--Took MSW(maiden special weight) trying two turns for the first time with consumate ease; got away clean, was third entering first turn, took the lead while in hand in the stretch, breezed to the wire in a common canter; 7-4.
Endless Circle--Should have won again; broke clean from post 2, saved ground to the top, waited while blocked(-1) in stretch, eased outside to clear, surged late, N/A(not asked); 7-26.
Gimme Credit--Love these in traffic runners; not quick(-1) early, trailed, knifed between foes moving down the backstretch, waited locked in(-1) between foes on turn, 4th to the top, urged, came with nice late kick; 6-25.
Gone Astray--This was impressive despite snail's pace; broke alert, eased back, was fifth and full of run dbs(down backstretch) in 50, out of last midway on far turn(1:14), swooped 3-wide(-1) to lead intothe stretch, loved his full stride late; 7-3.
Holy Moment--Leggy four-year-old filly tookto Belmont turf and to rating; eased back from between foes early(-1), rated seventh, angled 6-wide(-2) sweeping to the top, cleared early stretch; 7-4.
Hunters Bay--Talented colt for certain; away 2nd, led inside one on the first turn, set measured tempo, led by 1 to the 1/2(48.1), led by 2 in stretch, urged LH(left-handed) the final 1/8, strong late; 7-3.
Malibu Pier--Lengths best making debut at 6 furlongs on the lawn; away second, between foes opening 1/4, dropped to the rail, saved ground to the top, checked, broke stride(-2), recovered, surged late, galloped out strongly; 7-15.
Maram--Scintilating last to 1st run on Monmouth lawn; from post 9, slow early, bumped, angled left(-1-1/2), trailed, eighth outside one midway on second turn, last to the top, flew late, amazing!; 7-4.
Mystic Fever--Tons best breaking maiden for $25,000; broke out, bumped(-1), fifth inside one to start run down the backstretch, began big run midway on far turn angling far wide(-2) to clear a lugging out leader, reeled that one in and won clear; 7-28.
Rumbling--Good try by this FTS(first time starter); broke straight, bit green moving to the 1/2(-1), fifth into the turn, waited top(-1/2), angled outside, ringy in lane while third; 7-24.
Tigresco--Huge run for $35,000 maiden turf; broke then bumped(-1) from the left, seventh on first turn, moved outside to start run down the backstretch, due to 3 making premature moves he was caught 5W(-1-1/2) waiting in eighth midway on the back side, made good run 3-wide(-1), swept to the lead, won clear; 6-25.
Valiant Effort--Loved stride in turf stretch out; third with a gap most of the way, rallied off the far turn, gained the lead, held late an inside challenge; 7-21.

I'm wondering why you don't include the name of the racetrack in your notes though? It would make locating the replays a lot easier.
In a related matter, the "Horse" search feature on the CalRacing replay page is great for finding all the non-California replays they offer. Right now you can pick up all the Saratoga/Belmont races, as well as replays from places like Woodbine, Emerald Downs, or Turf Paradise. Some others too, i'm sure. Tracks that are NOT offered (meaning the replay will not turn up when you enter a horse's name) include Churchill and Monmouth. Churchill replays can be found on YouTube, Monmouth i've had some trouble with. Most replays are on the Bloodhorse site if you dig deep enough, but not all of them. Here's the link i've been using:
