: Where will she run?

"That would be our No. 1 thing, to have (Zenyatta) run here, and we'll keep trying until they tell us they aren't," Rick Hammerlee, Del Mar's assistant racing secretary, said Sunday.

Finally, cornered in the paddock, Shirreffs said he hadn't had a chance to check out the Polytrack and that Zenyatta's workout on Saturday morning at Hollywood Park would determine when she runs next.

"We know they are going to do what they are going to do," Hammerlee said. "We've learned that."

According to sources, the Zenyatta camp turned down a chance to work the mare between the races at Del Mar.

On Monday, word came that the New York Racing Association had been in contact with Zenyatta's connections about the Aug. 29 Personal Ensign Stakes to be run at 1 1/4 miles on the dirt at Saratoga Springs, N.Y. That just happens to be the same race that 4-year-old filly Rachel Alexander, the defending horse of the year, is pointing for.

Could Zenyatta finally get her shot at revenge for losing to Rachel in the horse of the year voting?

"I have no idea," Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs told the New York Daily News.

Ingordo-Shirreffs is John's wife and the racing manager for Jerry and Ann Moss.

"We're trying to decide that," she said. "We have not confirmed anything yet. We're looking at several options."

It's no secret that the Zenyatta camp wanted a shot at Rachel Alexander earlier this year, but gave up on such a matchup when Rachel's owner, Jess Jackson, started playing games and making excuses for Rachel's poor races after her six-month layoff.

Instead, the Zenyatta camp apparently decided to stay on the West Coast to run in the Vanity Handicap at Hollywood Park -- where she beat St Trinians in the last stride -- then go to Del Mar followed by a race at Oak Tree's meet at Santa Anita. If all went right, Zenyatta would be 19-for-19 heading into the defense of her Breeders' Cup Classic championship, this year on dirt at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Ky.

But Del Mar's track has thrown a monkey wrench into that plan."

If she runs at the Spa, I"m going on record and saying Jess Jackson will opt out with Rachel.
