Hardened handicappers will tell you to shy away froman impressive maiden winner when he or she is wheeled back against winners. Putmeupfront(7) could be an exception to the rule in race 11 at Monmouth Park on Friday. First off this 3-year-old geldings first race back this year on June 5th was better than looked. On review of the head-on shot we noted Putmeupfront being pinballed between hores. It was not a positive experience. When Terry Pompay dropped him a peg and ran him for maiden $10,000 he's fortunate he did not lose the Florida-bred. Dixieland Kris chased him home that day and he validated the strength of the maiden win by coming back to graduate himself. Putmeupfront turned in a strong race for the level. After a clean break he vied for the lead wide(-1) down the backstretch. Putmeupfront gained the lead three-wide(-1) into the turn. He got separation to the top and widened. Pompay gave him plenty of time to recoup and he posted a notable half-mile drill on July 18 for this race.
