#3 Les Grande Trois (5/2 ml)

Helluva nice animal here, stakes-quality for sure. At least he was when last seen, when he suffered a brutal trip in the Bay Shore (back in April) and got beat at odds-on. Looks like he's still got it, based on an unreported (included in today's Form, but missing from the original worktab) heads-up drill on Aug. 17 with First Defence, who ran Hard Spun to a close decision in the King's Bishop. Les Grande Trois has run huge off an extended layoff before, running down the crack sprinter Black Seventeen over the speed-favoring Santa Anita dirt track back in March. Prior to that, he had posted a 9-length win over the same Belmont surface he'll be running on today. He catches a tough field here in his first start vs. older horses, but there's a lot of speed here that should set it up pretty well for his off-the-pace style. He won't be a big price, but he shouldn't be too short either, not with Noonmark and his big Beyer figures showing. Expecting a very solid effort out of this colt.

HRT record:

29 for 102 (28%)

$269.10 mutuels ($9.28 avg)
