Coupla turf races today. I do like Johnny Eves in the 3rd, but i'm afraid he'll get bet down too low.
Race 5
#3 Patch of Blue (9/2 ml)
I liked this horse last time, and i'm going to give him another chance here. He got squeezed back leaving the gate and was dealing with some traffic problems into the first turn that resulted on him being WAY back off a very slow pace. He's a come-from-behind type anyway, but he simply left with too much to do here. He came wide into the stretch and launched his rally, no problem, but just had to much ground to make up and the horses in front of him had too much gas in the tank due to the soft fractions. There's more speed lined up for this one, and i still have confidence in the colt. I think he's at least as good as the 5/2 ml favorite Chancellor. No knocks on that one, but the value lies with Patch of Blue, i think.
Race 8
#9 Attima (3/1 ml)
This filly is upper-tier stakes quality when she's on her game, and that ceratainly appears to be the case today. I was reading in the STable Nots section of the Oak Tree website that Canani hadn't even planned on running her in this spot, but she's been training so well recently that he decided to enter her. The hill poses no problem, in fact it's a benefit, as she scored an impressive win in her lone prior race over the course. She has excellent speed, but can also be rated, which is the combo you're looking for down the hill. She also drew favorably, with most of the speed to her inside. Expecting a big run out of her. Btw, you might also take a look at #2 Itsawonderfullife (20/1 ml). She gets tossed into some very deep waters here, coming off an extended layoff with only a maiden win (around two turns) to her credit. She's shown a ton of speed in the morning however, and Biancone must have a lot of confidence in her to make this type of move. Wouldn't surprise me if she ran well here.
HRT record:
30 for 104 (29%)
$275.50 mutuels ($9.18 avg)
