Santa Anita - Race 9

#2 Karazi (12/1 ml)

Been waiting on this horse to run back for quite a while. He looked best (to these eyes) when running a close 5th behind Medici Code, Worldly, and Latin Rhythms last time out. That race was very much flattered when Medici Code came back to win the Del Mar Derby, a race Karazi was excluded from because it over-subscribed (he did enter). Worldly came back to run a close third in the Del Mar Derby, while Latin Rhythms came back to win the El Conejo Handicap. Trainer John Sadler enters Karazi back vs. top company again, and that shows a lot of confidence. Particularly when he entered Karazi directly into a Grade 2 stakes for his American debut, while his other top turf horses (Crossing The Line and Black Mamba) were started out in allowance races. That might have something to do with the fact Karazi has a different owner than Crossing The Line/Black Mamba, but this particular owner (Edmund Gann) has had a lot of success with private purchases in the past (in conjunction with his former trainer Bobby Frankel). I read some encouraging quotes from John Sadler and Brice Blanc just yesterday, and they seem happy with Karazi's current condition. Tough race here, but this colt can flat-out motor and there will be excellent value here. Expecting a big effort.

HRT record:

37 for 126 (29%)

$324.70 mutuels ($8.78 avg)
