Del Mar Derby (G2) winner BANNED (Kitten's Joy), who traveled four furlongs on Santa Anita's firm turf in :52 on Thursday, suffered a severe injury while pulling up from the easy work. Glen Hill Farm President Craig Bernick tweeted that the Tom Proctor trainee "fractured both sesamoids in his right ankle" and that they were "trying to save him." Bernick added, "We will know more tomorrow, he seems to be a relatively good patient. Fingers crossed, but vets say 20 percent chance he makes it." One of the nation's top turf three-year-olds, Banned also captured the American Turf (G2) and Jefferson Cup (G3) and placed in both the Virginia Derby (G2) and Secretariat S. (G1)...

    Makes me sick. Jenine Sahadi apparently retired from training after 12 of her 14 horses were put down or permanently injured @ Del Mar. Several trainers got it really bad down there. Others were fine, however, and it may just be a TERRIBLE coincidence.
