Gulfstream Plays--Saturday

Not much luck lately. The one I gave out today, Lightning Ron, was well positioned turning for home and stopped. Worst report a owner/trainer can hear, Johnny V. reported that He stopped breathing. Almost impossible to determine the cause of this severe physical problem and it has been the cause for the demise of many very promising young horses. The vet will take a small sample of the tissue around the throat and send it off to Rood & Riddle for analysis and they will report back as to the likelihood of a successful surgery to correct the problem, with absolutely no guarantee of success. Not near as simple as the old "flipped pallett" the old vets used to refer to. Nevertheless, there are two going tomorrow at the Stream which deserve a serious look:

In the 7th race, #7 CERTAINTY, 5/2, is a two year old dogwood filliet out of Lawyer Ron who caught a real dynamo last out, Medolina, who has come back to work lights out for the TAP barn and will not re-appear in a clm race anytime soon. Yet, Certainty ran a much the best 2nd to Medolina and will face nothing like her tomorrow. Johnny V., who guided Medolina last out, takes the call on Certainty . Been working super at PMM for old school trainer Frank Alexander and is one you simply cannot leave off any of your plays.

In the 9th race, Dogwood has another who just missed last out going 1 1/16 and today stretches out to his natural clasic distance of 1 1/8. # 6, BIG SCREEN, 3-1, son of Speighttown is just now figuring out what this game is all about, and showed it last out when engaged in a stretch long battle to just come up a nostril short. Stretch out should be just what he needs to graduate from the maiden ranks. Another Frank Alexander trained and gets Rajiv in the saddle.

Dogwood Stable connections will be present tomorrow and expect to be involved in two photos in the winner's circle!!!

Good Luck to All, and perhaps more info to follow?

    Gulfstream Race 4
    Alw n1x 1 1/16 dirt

    #7 JAKESAM, 2-1
Former California runner for Hollandorfer was transferred to TAP and has really come alive. Been working heads up at PMM with new former claiming sensation Medolina, and they lit it up a week ago going 1/2 in 48.1/5. Had one start on Big A turf and set early pace to tire late. Gets back on dry dirt today and could lead this group all the way around. Yet, Smoke Glacken bloodlines suggests that the distance may be a problem.

    #2 SIMBAMANGU, 9/5
Barclay Tagg runner has speed also and is the class of the group. Speed battle up front expected with the #7 and could set it up late for

    #8 MAPLE LEAF KITTEN, 8-1
Claimed from Ramsey for around $80k some time back by Bill Hayes and sent to Joe Woodard. Late kick like no one else in here and is the one most likely to take advantage of a speed battle up front. This race sets up perfect for him but if speed is holding or Prado and Johnny V. take back he will have it tough.

    RESULTS

In the 4th, #7 JAKESAM, had everything his own way down the stretch, but his Smoke Glacken distance limitations got the best of him and he gave way to the big favorite, #2 Simbamangu, and another late runner to finish 3rd. #8 Maple Leaf Kitten stumbled badly at the start and offered little. Keep Jakesam on your look-out list because when he cuts back to 7f or a mile, he will be one tough S.O.B.

In the 7th, #7 CERTAINTY, was much the best fillie in here but was caught 5 or 6 wide on the turn and it cost her the win. Ran 2nd but with better position should have won by 2 or 3 lengths. Paid $5.40/$3.00.

In the 9th, #6 BIG SCREEN, entered the final turn near the front and again had a stretch long battle with another, however this time BIG SCREEN got the win by a long nose. Gallant effort and this soon to be 3yo showed alot of heart. Paid $$7.80/$4.00/$3.00.

Where is the help on the card today at Santa Anita?
