Surprised that Reneesgotzip shot way up after her loss yesterday. Thought she ran extremely well after blowing the first turn.

And allegedly she was struck in the face with a whip. My guess is that Bodemeister @ 29-1 was the bet, but I stayed away from this round.

I passed on Bodemeister @ 60/1 a couple of weeks ago. He'll be hard-pressed to win the Derby from where he's sitting now (one maiden win and no graded earnings). Throw in the fact that he didn't race as a 2yo, which of course hasn't been overcome in literally around a hundred years.

And Churchill/DRF was listing him @ 15/1, gimme a break. Like the horse, but let's be real now.

Speaking of Baffert colts, i read an article in Sunday's DRF where Steve Klein states that Feb Biz closed @ 21/1 in Pool One, "an overlaid price". Yeah sure. He also endorses betting Bodemeister @ 15/1, right after he argues that Union Rags is NOT worth betting @ 4/1.

Not that i disagree that Union Rags is unplayable at that price (i agree with that assessment), but which would you rather have right now? Union Rags @ 4/1, or Bodemeister @ 15/1? That's a no-brainer, and he apparently can't even get THAT right. I know that Klein is just trying to promote the Future Wager with these ridiculous articles of his (this isn't the first one), but they're really just an embarassment to himself and the DRF. My two cents.

    Here's the article, btw:

The future bet is a waste of time and money unless you bet the field. It's the only entry that potentially offers any value given the brittle nature of horses these days. Steve Crist has long advocated that they include every single nominated 3-year-old in the future wager racing but because horseracing's management is so horrible, they have never made this move. Just imagine that. You could get upwards of 250-1 on many horses.

Steve Klein hasn't picked a winner since he picked Charismatic to win the Derby in 1999 (great call).

I can vouch for your statement as I have blown many $100.00's on these type wagers. Just bad bets in all. The one I will never forget was Eight Belles to win the Oaks!!!!!!!!! I think if you want to do it make a couple of $20.00/$50.00 on some BOMBS for the fun of it.

Leading Kentucky Oaks (gr. I) candidate Princess Arabella, undefeated in two starts for trainer Bob Baffert, worked a sharp five furlongs in 59 seconds flat handily at Santa Anita March 9.

Peachtree Stable's chestnut filly is preparing for the $200,000 Sunland Park Oaks at 1 1/16 miles March 25 in New Mexico, which would be her first stakes race. She is a daughter of Any Given Saturday --Tortuga Lady, by Thunder Gulch .

Princess Arabella dominated an allowance field of sophomore fillies Feb. 12 at Santa Anita, winning the seven-furlong test by 3 1/2 lengths as a 1-10 favorite. She broke her maiden in equally impressive style Dec. 31.

The work, over a fast track, was the first since her allowance win. It was the second fastest of 51 at the distance on the morning.

In the Kentucky Oaks Future Wager that concluded March 4, Princess Arabella was made the top individual choice for the race at odds of 6-1. Her stablemate, Las Virgenes Stakes (gr. I) winner Eden's Moon, was 9-1 in the same pool.

Baffert would be looking for his second straight triumph in the Sunland Park Oaks. Last year's winner, Plum Pretty, was also owned by Peachtree Stable and went on to win the Kentucky Oaks.
