Belmont - Race 9
#5 Bourbon Courage (5/1 ml)
Been looking to play this horse back after his last effort, which i think is a complete throwout. In case you missed the Derby Trial @ Churchill some weeks back, the race was delayed by almost a full hour (with the horses standing in the paddock the whole time) due to a very nasty hailstorm. If that wasn't enough to maker the horses feel uncomfortable, needless to say, the track was totally torn up by the hailstorm, and Bourbon Courage just never looked comfortable out there at all (neither did Paynter, really). That was in stark contrast to Bourbon Courage's two previous starts @ Fair Grounds, where he looked smooth-as-glass and plenty talented. Fully expect this one to bounce back with a solid effort today (assuming a dry track), and it's definitely worth noting that Paynter came out of that race to show massive improvement in his next start @ Pimlico. Also have to like the fact that Bourbon Courage may be overlooked here off the poor effort in his stakes debut. Great value here on this up-and-comer.
