Hansen connections are heading to the Haskell with the defection of Bode. Dr. Kendell just announced it. This will make Paynter a short overlay now as Hansen will probably end up the favorite.

In other big summer news, new connections for Shackleford have nixed any thoughts of running this old warrior in the 1 1/8 Whitney. Instead, Shack will head to the Aug 5 Vanderbilt going 6f, and then stretch out to 7f in the GI Forego on Sept 1. If he does well, and he should, BC mile will be his last before entering stud duty at Darby Dan.

The Saratoga Stakes program for older hdc horses should really be something!

Darby Dan has the breeding rights to Shack. Dale Romans is still his trainer.

Dr. Hansen still hasn't commited but Maker is pushing for the West Va. Derby and looks to be getting his way. I cannot believe they are ducking the runners at Monmouth. Now in the Jim Dandy and Haskell you will have probably 6-7 horse fields in these prestigous races. Very disappointing.

Yes it is disappointing. Monmouth will probably find some local no-hope filler to get to 8 horses.

As for Hansen, can't really fault his connections for going after the $600k purse where they will be odds on. They probably realize they can't beat the truly best 3yos at 9f.
