Let me tell you a quick story on Kent D, it was 2008 my two buddies and myself were heading into the Derby Media Party at The Galt House in Louisville the Thursday night before the Ky Derby. I opened the door and let my buddies go in and after they walked in I saw someone walking my way so I held the door for them. Well guess who it was (Kent D), I stopped him and introduce myself and I'm one not to be shy!! So I stepped outside the door with him and looked at him and said why you leaving so early and how is the Big Horse doing. He looked right in my eyes with no hesitation and said I have to get my sleep because Big Brown will win for FUN!!!! I love Big Brown till he drew the 20 hole and when I told my buddies what he said they looked at me and said do you realize there is no need to realize who we are betting on Saturday.

What makes this even more bizarre was before the Humana Distaff we were invited to the paddock and we were escorted down and I saw many people at the far end of the paddock where the horses lead out to the track surronding a young lady. So I walk down that way and it's like someone is telling me something, this young lady was a artist and she was painting a picture of Kent D on top of Big Brown on site in the paddcok winning the Ky Derby. I'm like WTF are these signs!!!!!! Well I head back up the Matt Wynn room where we are sitting and head to he window and make a nice wager on Intangaroo and Key her 1st and 2nd in the exacta and Tril Well Aloson runs them down at the wire and I'm jumping up and down doing the Covington Stomp, too make a long story short I crushed that race HUGE!!!!! Well a few races later The Ky Derby is upon us and I move myself over the to Turf Club with all the Celebs and I head to the window and make my wagers KEYING Colonel John and as you all know I don't cash one ticket. If I key Big Brown instead of Colonel John I hit everthing (exacta,Tri, and Super) The race runs Big Brown, Eight Belles, Dennis of Cork and Tale of Ekati. So we play the next two races and head to the Ky Derby Musem for the Winners Party. We get there and it's kind of lame at first then here comes IEAH with Babe in tow and they are ready to tear the town up. We stay for about an hour as they are playing that doc. First Saturday in May. We leave and head over to Jeff Ruby's and I get so F'ed up for not keying Big Brown that I pass out sitting straight up with a asparagus in my mouth at the table in Jeff Ruby's!!!!!!! What a weekend in 08!!!!!!

Great stiff, great stuff! It interesting hearing the stories around the track, and for me it is a big part why enjoy the game and more importantly this forum. Hopefully we will all have a good story from this years derby, and hopefully one similarity, going home a wimner!

How many are planning on going this year??? I was looking at tickets $300 dont seem bad for a seat up the track, 500 a little closer to the finish line.

I actually had some tax shit that caused me to crack open the filing cabinet.

I'm not even sure who I bet anymore. Just says, 134th Derby $100 win 10. And now that I think about it even more, I had a double from Intangaroo to some west-coast turf horse (maybe one of Frankel's) and maybe one other that was gonna pay something stupid, like 12k, and the horse ran second I think. Time flies.

What year did Talamo go 44 flat on Sidney's Candy?

10 was indeed Colonel John, and 2010 was Sidney's Candy's sprinting effort (he held on for 17th).

Funny you guys bring up Sidney's Candy, i just gooled that Derby the other day because i was talking to someone about the year Super Saver won and i couldn't remember who i liked that year (turned out it was Sidney's Candy; for some reason i was thinking Brother Derek).

How many of you guys are going to the Derby this year? Thought i remembered some of you talking about being part of the Palace Malice entourage if he ended up making the race. Still hoping against hope that PM can pull it off...good luck, John!!

Colonel John actually loomed large at the top of the stretch but then he flattened out.

If you watch the race real close he either took a bad step or tried to jump over something then we has done. Came back to win over the weeds like a good thing.
