Many of the barns that left Oaklawn headed up to Altonna, Iowa, a little place called Prairie Meadows, and the racing ain't too bad up there. I understand that they have a casino and the purses are ok.
What I really like is the fact that they run a stakes race tonight and name it after a former first lady who has been dead for close to 50 years! You can't make this up, only in Iowa?

MAMIE EISENHOWER STAKES, f & m 4 up Iowa Bred going 6f for $70k
Good connections in Lynn C.'s barn don't have one in here, which is a surprise, but they really like #1 GINGER ADDED, 7/2, who they say is a completely different horse than she was a year ago. She came off the shelf in last and beat most of the ones she faces tonight and was pulling away late going 5 1/2 f, and she goesw 6f tonight. Last prep work was really good and word is she is the one to beat? Maggie Moss and Kelly Von Hemel have mares entered which will help the tote. W/P wager!
Most of the cards today at Bel & CD are eaten up with scratches.
