Hi John,

Would you happen to know anything about Miss Frost @ Belmont today? She looks very live based on my handicapping, but i thought you might have some additional information?

Thanks,
DC

Why is TAP running Yes LIz at Belmont in this spot. Just 5 days ago this filly ripped a hole at The Spa training track from the gate and he ships her down South for this spot?? Also take notice of the filly below her that is showing a affinity for the Big Sandy surface with two nice Gate Works by Majestic Warrior for John T??? Dogwood's entry looks to be spotted for racing experience and IMO they are looking to win at the Spa with that one. Tough to back a 1ster going 5 from the rail with so much gate speed outside of her.

I think FB just got off the phone with Jack Sadler? I did and he said the exact same thing, that being Tommy Albertrani likes this young Curlin fillie, but he has bigger and better plans ahead this summer up at the Spa. But you never know, and she could pop the box and scamper away?

On Friday at Belmont, take a look at first timer 2yo colt SPUN, who is one Gary Contessa is beaming over.

I can tell you one thing I was around Tommy A on Belmont weekend, he is one different DUDE!!!

    Agreed!

To me, it seems that Tom A. takes much too much time in between races for his stable. As an owner, that can be frustrating as hell!

My two year old out of Tapit(Morse) will be a late developer. Pin-fired shins cost time and he is just now back into training, while still in Aiken. Going to ask him for speed on Saturday and hope he shows something. He will probably stay in Aiken until mid-August and then ship to Belmont. We just don't know who's barn he will go to, but I am lobbying hard (if not TAP) that he go to Contessa. Although Graham Motion is going to start getting some of the Eclipse/Dogwood horses soon as he is tight with Aron Wellman from his days at Team Valor. My expectations are not unrealistic, but I do hope he will turn out to be a Saturday type horse. I'd sure hate to think I had the only Tapit who was not a runner!

    Formula for success:

Take a old broken-down has-been and enter her in a stakes race at Parx on a Tuesday and get Joel Rosario to ride.

    Somalia Lemonade!

Once again, I let Joel get by me in a situation where it made no sense and these are the ones he performs his magic on.

Thanks for the info, John and FB. Definitely still playing her though.

Here's what i have on Miss Frost (from my website):

    Belmont - Race 4

    #1 Miss Frost (10/1 ml)

Haven't had a Wednesday play for a while, but this looks like a nice one. Let's go back to that June 10 workout for a moment. This filly appeared to outwork the then-unraced filly True Blue Nation by .01 seconds, which was later verified when those two came right back to work heads-up from the gate together on June 16. Subsequent to those drills, True Blue Nation was entered on June 19 and raced gate-to-wire to win by 5 lengths (at odds of 17/1, no less). Have to like that, especially when it appears that Miss Frost here may have actually been the better of the two in that June 10 drill. At this price, gimme gimme gimme. Worth noting also, one of the reasons that True Blue Nation went off @ 17/1 that day was because she was facing an odds-on Pletcher firster (named Candy Kitty, who went off at odds of 4/5), and it appears that Miss Frost will be facing a similar foe today, with the Pletcher firster (# 5 Yes Liz) being listed as the 7/5 ml favorite. Unfortunately, the other reason that True Blue Nation went off @ 17/1 is because trainer Tom Albertrani almost never wins with first-time starters anymore, and that's a legitimate concern here with Miss Frost, but based on the info listed above i think she still makes for an excellent play. Love these 2yo races; let's hope we have a nice summer this year!

Btw, i completely disagree with FB about the rail position in these 5-furlong 2yo sprints @ Belmont (and Saratoga). True that getting caught on the inner half of a speed duel is never a good thing, but if Miss Frost does indeed have some speed (as True Blue Nation certainly did), then the fact that this race starts so very close to the turn gives an inherent advantage to her. If she can get to the turn in front, then she'll be able to cut the corner and hopefully extend her lead while her pace foes (and most of the rest of the field) start losing a little ground by taking the turn a bit wider. I've seen this work out very well in the past; let's hope it's the case today.

As for the Pletcher filly (#5 Yes Liz, 7/5 ml), i wasn't able to find much recent info on her (she did work heads-up from the gate on July 21 with an unraced barnmate named All in Blue), but she did work the fastest quarter-mile at the April OBS in 20 4/5 seconds, so it would appear she may be very legit. Backup exacta for sure.

This is why horse racing is awesome. Two people, who's opinions I respect greatly, can differ so much and create great betting scenarios.

Miss Frost broke ok but after the run-up she threw her head up and looked very green. Prado took it easy on her, she is lucky Jose Santos(retired) was not in the saddle or he would have whacked her across the muzzle and got her head down! She may be a Curlin type who needs alot more time and experience?

I have to work on Friday so tomorrow is somewhat of a wasted day-off. The old ball n chain wants to go over to the Indian Casino, and they do have a nice little OTB. If anyone has any good spots for the 4th, post them early so I can get them before I head into the Indian Territory. I haven't been over there since the Belmont Stakes, so I guess I'll be expected to buy several rounds of Firewater!
