Ron the Greek, coming off a dominant victory in the $1 million Jockey Club Gold Cup on Sept. 28, will be scratched from Saturday's $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic due to a quarter crack in his right front foot, trainer Bill Mott said Thursday.

Mott said Ron the Greek was diagnosed with a bruised heel Wednesday, and an abscess popped out later that afternoon.

"He'll be okay; he's not going to be okay for Saturday," Mott said. "Given the way he was doing, he seemed like he was going to be a factor. It would have been fun to run him. We were excited about his chances."

Double speak from Bill Mott---a few days ago he was saying that Flat Out had a better chance. Palace Malice/Flat Out cold exacta looks mighty good!
