Nice colt from the Baffert barn

Very fine debut by the Baffert firster Five Palms the other day (Sunday @ Hollywood).
He's also a very interesting colt breeding-wise, as he's a son of the exceptional No Cal-based South American import Ema Bovary, who was without a doubt one of the best female sprinters i've seen over the last 20 years or so.
So pretty special indeed that she would produce a colt like Five Palms, who looks as if he might be a chip off the old block. Colt showed good speed from the inside, then was switched outside to sit off a loose pacesetter (who was running a very nice race in his own right). Five Palms just kept on after him though, never giving up, and eventually took command late to win in solid time in a very game effort. Nice gap back to the rest of the field too, which is always a good sign.
Looks like he has a pretty bright future, and i would guess that he might even be pointed at the Malibu for his second start. That might be a little too ambitious (even for Baffert), but we shall see.
