Quick story about Social Inclusion

Just a quick note regarding something that i noticed about Social Inclusion right after his impressive maiden win.

I had a large was on the second-place horse that day (Tiger Tank, who went off @ 7/2), who had come into the race off a heads-up drill with an older graded stakes winner. Well, Tiger Tank went right to the front, but was immediately confronted by Social Inclusion, who had shot up the rail to challenge despite breaking a bit slowly. They battled up front thru fast fractions until shortly before the turn, at which point Social Inclusion just shook off Tiger Tank at will and started drawing off through the turn and then the entire length of the stretch, while not really being asked a whole lot by his rider. Impressed i was, and rather shocked as well, since he was a longshot trained by a guy i had never even heard of before.

So right after the race, i came home and went to go look at the horse in the Racing Form to see if i had missed something. And yes, definitely, i had mised something. His Feb 15 drill was 45.3 from the gate, and 2nd-of-79. Impressive enough on it's own, but that's not what caught my eye. Rather, it was the fact that his workout was listed as "Handily", which on the East Coast is the same as "Breezing" on the West Coast (it's reversed for some reason). So, not only had he worked in 45.3 from the gate, he apparently had done it while under a hold.

That kind of tipped me off that, yes, this horse indeed had some serious talent, which he confirmed by blasting the nice prospect Tiger Tank in that maiden race. And then, you see what he did when stretched out to two turns against Honor Code (though admittedly under ideal circumstances, being the lone speed in a 5-horse field).

Very interesting prospect moving forward, despite his inexperience. He looks every bit the real deal.

I like it when the owner said he will not be sold before the wood. IMO I think this guy has complete confidence that he is going to air in this spot..money is going to be offered in truck loads..

DCat, No disrespect but Handily is a looser rein than a Breeze at all tracks. On the West Coast the clockers rarely give a work a breeze. You will see Breeze alot more on the East Coast and Mid West. Breeze is a much better work than a Handily work.

I was under the impression it was backwards here in California, too.

    breeze (breezing)
Working a horse at a moderate speed, less effort than handily.
