Saratoga - Race 2
#3 Empressive Humor (4/1 ml)
Asmussen trainee worked twice in company with Bold Conquest (outworking that one in the more recent Saratoga gate drill, btw), and Bold Conquest later flattered her by running a clear second in a fast maiden race last week (behind heavily-favored open-lengths winner Blame Jim).
Also, more recently, Empressive Humor worked heads-up with Revolver, who was heavily-favored in a Churchill maiden race last month when running a close second (and being right up on the lead throughout). Looks like this gal can probably run a little, and is no doubt well-meant in this spot.
As for her competition today, the big favorite Overspending (7/5 ml, Pletcher) tied for the fastest furlong at the March Ocala Sale (with 21 other horses), but has strangely not worked in company with anyone coming into this race today (and was only given a name within the last couple of weeks). That is atypical for Pletcher, and could suggest that she's not necessarily well-meant today. Worth noting that Pletcher also has a second 2yo entered here as well, whom i also don't have much information on (she's been working solely with other unraced horses thus far).
There's also a somewhat-interesting entrant from the Dominick Schettino barn (Kisses For Romeo, 5/1 ml), interesting because her most recent gate drill was a full second faster than the next-fastest drill at the distance that day. On the down side however, prior that she had worked with an older barnmate who is 1-for-17 lifetime, so that's not too encouraging. Schettino is good with 2yo's though (more so with state-breds), so just something to be aware of though.
Should be some good value on Empressive Humor here, as the crowd will likely be overspending on Overspending.
HRT record:
95 for 357 (27%)
$813.10 mutuels ($8.56 avg)
