As many of you already know, I handicap the TC races by pedigree being that I'm a pedigree consultant. My selections are based on the breeding of the horses I feel are able to get the classic distances of the TC races so they may not be ready for these shorter races.
In this race it looks like Calculator has a big edge on speed figures but will be at short odds...I don't really think he will be around at the finish of the Derby distance but right now he is a strong threat. But, one can never tell with these young horses who improve so much race to race.
#7 Calculator 8/5........the one to beat
#6 Papacoolpapacool 8/1....has a super pedigree that might be more attuned to the grass..connections are probably giving him a try on dirt to see if he's a potential contender for the TC...was a bit short last time off the layoff but has nice works with a good bullet 5f...bred to run all day.
#8 Hero Ten All 4/1....also nicely bred and should improve off last.
#1 St. Joe Bay 8/1....one of 3 that Miller has in here...nice pedigree...didn't care much for the weeds last time although it wasn't a bad race.
everyone is trying to see where their horses fit in the TC races so there will be some surprises both good and bad but that's what makes it so much fun...handicapping by pedigree gives one a chance to catch some big winners along the trail before they show how good they really are...
