Churchill Downs, April 30 - Race 9 - analysis

Captain Genius has won three of his last four starts, and two

of those wins came against similar at Oaklawn. He wins the paper race off

his last win April 10 and looks like the one to beat, HF 15a style. Guns

Loaded finished 3rd behind the top choice in a similar affair April 10. He

was also beaten by that one Feb 13. In between, though, he beat similar

at Oaklawn March 25. He has a chance to be a factor. Be A Hero just

missed behind Guns Loaded in that March 25 heat at Oaklawn. He’s

lightly raced and also merits respect. The wildcard could be Viva

Majorca. He’s been freshened since a poor Stakes try routing on the

grass at Tampa Jan 24. He’s worked nine times since raced, will have

blinkers removed and ran well in two dirt sprints here last year. He might

be worth a look at decent odds, so he’s our HF 20.

    #1 Guns Loaded

Barn of Chris Hartman is hotter than a cheap pistol, and Ricardo Santana Jr. moves him up 5 lengths, at least!
