Kentucky Oaks Fractional Chart
In the 11th race at Churchill Fractional Charting, Lovely Maria as the chart topper with the fastest closing fraction of 36.6 coming off her romping win in the Grade 1 Ashland April 4. In Turf Routes a fast closing fraction is important and deserves a long look as it indicates this horse has the ability to close down the stretch. Lovely Maria squares off again with Im a Chatterbox who is plotting second in the Fractional Charting. The last time those two met Lovely Maria chased Chatterbox home when wide throughout in a Fair Grounds Grade 3 on Feb. 21. Chartterbox returned to win the Fair Grounds Oaks March 28 and was undefeated at that winter session after going 0- for -2 here in the fall. Chatterbox has speed, but rallied to win the Feb 21 affair and the only real question may be Can she handle this surface?. Lovely Maria has yet to run a bad race and may be able to turn in two alike. Of course, as her Fractional Charting numbers suggest she skyrocketed at Keeneland April 4 which either indicates she can lead this field to a win or she might be eligible to bounce a bit.
