Understanding how to use the Digest's Final Time Rating can help give you an advantage in determining which horses are in form and might run well in their next start and which may be in need of additional works and races before they can compete in today's race. Today's Racing Digest's Final Time Rating is a speed figure that takes into account only the final time of the horse. This measures a horses final time against our track pars, with the daily track variant factored in. A horse equaling the track par for the distance would earn a 150 Final Time Rating. Three points are deduced for each length slower than par. The Final Time Rating can be found for each horse in the race sheets in the 2nd to last column. They have a red box around them in the race sheet below.
The 5th Race at Golden Gate is a good example of how to use the Final Time Rating. In the race sheet below we can see Ride Hard Kowboy last start earned a 134 FTR which is the highest in the field. It was also earned at this race level less than a month ago at Santa Anita at One Mile and an eighth which indicates he is in good form for today's race.
