Very little separates Alexis Tangier, Home Journey, and Birdlover in the paper race. ‘Tangier has been away seven months, but has trained well, is 2-for-2 on this course and beat sophs in a similar
Stakes in September. She seems the best off-pace threat in a speedladen lineup. ‘Journey came off a freshening to beat Grade 3 sprinters on this course April 11. She cleared off early in that one, but figures to have a stronger early challenge, as Amaranth, Birdlover, and Sayes So have speed, too. Of those, Birdlover is being shortened up after setting the pace in back-to-back turf milers. She has successfully stalked the pace on this course and the turn back in distance should help her relax behind the other speed. She may have first run into the stretch and lands top billing as a result.
