Golden Soul, who was second in the 2013 Kentucky Derby, has shipped west for the first time to run in Santa Anita's closing day feature race the $150,000 The San Juan Capistrano Stakes.
Going Somewhere came off the bench to make his U.S. bow in the five-horse Charles C. Whittingham and set an unpressured pace to deep stretch until being collared in the final 100 yards. That was a decent effort and hes facing a rather unaccomplished group today. There are few better than Mike Smith at guiding a frontrunner to victory and he figures to control the pace from bell to wire. Patriots Rule and invader Golden Soul are likely to be running on late while Decisive Edge is bred to run all day and he may be closer to the pacesetter than the other two. He figures down the list on paper, but seems capable of completing the Exacta.
CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Customer Base :39.8 Tiz Futurity :39.9
