ANALYSIS: The opener is an event where every runner has some proving to do as they either have to rebound from a poor race, step up in class or come off a layoff. Stormin Trick has finished off the board in his last three starts with Cal-bred straight Maidens, but two of those were turf sprints and the other was a dirt route. He finished in the money in his last two dirt sprint with that kind and could rebound in a big way in this spot. Hes our HF 15a. Sindys Luck gets a barn switch from Mullins to Heap.
He was over-matched in a route with open straight Maidens in his last race Feb 7, but he finished in the money in both of his sprints with this kind. He could rebound off the layoff at what looks like his proper level. His new barn has a solid record with comebackers, too. Lucky Reality finished 3rd with Cal-bred straight Maidens in his one and only Jan 24. He was beaten by our top choice that day, but has room to improve in his second go round. Brimstoned shows modest form with Cal-bred straight Maidens, but hes a first-time gelding and could surprise at this level. Hes our HF 20. CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Lucky Reality :32.1 Show And Tell :32.7 Stormin Trick :32.8
Three of these win the paper race in our Fractional Charting. Sibernation has good early speed as she is fastest at the first call in 21.8 while Lucky Reality is the fastest closer with a final fraction of 32.1. There is also Stormin Trick who is also a late-runner. If you think the track will favor early speed, Sibernation may be the way to go. If you think it will favor closers then it might pay off to look for value on the tote amongst Lucky Reality and Stormin Trick.
