Longshots have been won their share in the first two weeks at Del Mar which have sparked a couple of large Pick 6 carryovers. We like longshot winners as well and the Digest will give out the occasional HF 20 to a horse who we think has win potential at longshot odds.
The HF 20 can be found on the top part of a race under Column 8 Handicapping Factors (HF) and not every race will have one. When there is one, the Digest will explain why we feel this horse can outrun its potential long odds.
In this race, Mr. Zippers has a trainer who can pop with a first time starter (11.8%) and he is a full sister to a Stakes winner. He also showed some ability in his workout on July 15 in 1:12.6 for six furlongs. These all seem to be positive factors and maybe they can all add up for a longshot or HF 20 win.
