ANALYSIS: A full field of bottom-level non-winners ends the day and returnee Next Book catches the eye. The 4-year-old is risked for an alltime low and he’s trained steadily for his return. Most of the races in his Data Lines would make him an easy winner on paper and Jones seemed to set him down for a test run July 1 and he responded with a fast work. In a race where singling seems like an imperative, ‘Book lands the HF 15. Black Tie has finished 2nd or 3rd in his first three dirt starts of 2015 and plots on top. He hails from the low-percentage Lloyd Wicker and may offerhigher odds than he should. S M Royal Image, Jack No, and Papa Frank all showed some run at Los Alamitos earlier in the month and can move forward again. Colors of Beauty popped and stopped debuting with no-taggers June 27 and may be very dangerous if he sneaks in. Herbies Thunder has shown some pop for Baltas and deserves a look. Generous Don is off turf and down in class. He gets blinkers, too, and can improve. CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: S M Royal Image :24.7 – Stellar Act :25.0 – Pippappy :25.6

The top five in the Fractional charting are separated by only one length (1/5 of a second = one length). We could look for the highest odds from these five and play that horse to win or we can see how the track has played today and adjust accordingly. If speed is holding, then give Eagle Rock a look as he is the quickest early of the five highlighted. If closers are winning then give Black Tie or Pippappy a look as they have the two fastest last fractions of the five highlighted.
