ANALYSIS: Long Hot Summer set the pace and held 2nd in a Grade III for 3-year-olds June 27. The winner of that heat came back to repeat in a Grade II, and, if you throw out her only dirt race, she’s never been worse than 2nd. She just seems to have talent in a field where most of these appear to have reached their ceiling. She’s our HF 15a. Beat Of The Drum will need a scratch to make the starting gate. She was 2nd with Classified Allowance foes in her second U.S. start Aug 6, so she could be very dangerous if she does get to run. Royal Temptress has finished in the money in three straight with this kind and looks like a must use in the exotics. She does draw a better post than our top picks, so a win wouldn’t be a big surprise. Gusto Dolce finished 2nd with this kind on dirt in her second U.S. start June 19. She has a couple of wins on turf out of country, so she should handle the surface switch. Majestic Heat ran well in a Grade I for 3-year-olds Aug 15. She’s another that could be a factor if she somehow can scratch in off the also-eligible list. CLOSERS: Fastest in the stretch in recent races at or near this distance have been: Majestic Heat, Arethusa :23.1 – Intoxicating Move :23.3 -Colonel Joan :23.5

Long Hot Summer virtually sets the pace as she is in front at the first and third calls. She holds on for a dead heat win on paper in par time for the level of 1:34.4 with Majestic Heat. ‘Heat has the fastest last fraction of 23.1 and she looks like one to fear late. Arethusa has a last fraction of 23.1 as well, but she is so far back entering the stretch that she doesn’t figure to be passing many horses in the stretch.
