    Laura Wohlers, is McIngvale's sister in law

    Though McIngvale won the 2004 Louisiana Derby with the Bob Baffert-trained Wimbledon, the King’s Bishop was his first Grade I triumph.

    “I knew we were taking a little drastic step,” Wohlers said. “But we took him over to Keeneland and worked him six furlongs. Edgar came in and went in 1:11, galloped out in 1:22 and change and we said, ‘Can we take a second off that race day?’

    “I sent the whole crew up 10 days, schooling every day in the paddock, five times in the afternoon during the races. I’m sure Maria was like, ‘Oh, I’ve got to go to the paddock again?’”

    Runhappy doesn’t lack for peeps. The “whole crew” is headed by Wohlers, Borell, exercise rider Omar Torres and groom Cordell Anderson. Six others pitched in at Saratoga, and Wohlers’ husband Kelly currently is in Lexington helping out.
