Minor stakes race for 2yo going 6f worth $100k
#1 PETROV, 5/2
Ronnie Moquett brought several horses up from Kentucky and Nola to accompany Whitmore. He ran one yesterday that was a firster and he was pretty green and ran a non-threatening 4th. Today he has Petrov who was a most professional debut winner at CD, where he sat off blazing fractions and pulled away in the stretch to win going away. If this race was in KY or at Oaklawn he would be 6/5, but NYRA bettors are not familure with Moquett so Petrov will go off probably 3rd favorite. The 5 is the ml fav but he has spent last summer and early fall beating up on cheaper in Minnesota, and you have to believe he will be pushed on the front end, probably by the 4, which should set things up perfectly for Petrov to unleash a good kick when the real running starts as they turn for home. Short field is a mystery so W/P #1 and tri key 1---2/5---2/5.
In race 7 take a good look at #3 Eric The Red, as Javier gets on and the ml of 5-1 looks very tempting?
