Santa Anita - Race 5
#9 Roar of Eagles (3/1 ml)
This colt ran a remarkable race in his debut, checking back to lose signifigant ground shortly after leaving the gate, then going eleventeen-wide around the turn while launching a ferocious rally that saw him win going away. In fact, his final time was a full second better than the other sprint run on the card that day, which was for straight maidens (Roar of Eagles ran in a maiden-claimer). Going further, Roar of Eagles was claimed out of that debut, which is always a very positive sign (it indicates that word of his ability had spread throughout the backstretch). He shows a nice, easy drill since last raced, and Solis stays aboard for the ride despite the change in ownership. There's also plenty of speed in this race to set up his late kick, and coming from off the pace has been the preferred running style recently. Looks good.
HRT record:
41 for 139 (29%)
$371.30 mutuels ($9.06 avg)
