#6 Tight Grip (3/1 ml)
Highly-regarded colt here for Frankel. He was the subject of an attempted betting coup in his debut, listed @ 5/1 on the morning line but hammered to even-money on the toteboard before eventually drifting up to 3/2 at post-time. He ran a winning race, but just got nosed at the wire by Markdale, who subsequently came back to run second in a restricted stakes @ Woodbine. More recently, Tight Grip ran a solid second @ Belmont to Garifine, who came back to run well as the 2/1 favorite in a tough allowance/optional-claimer @ Saratoga on Opening Day. Trainer Bobby Frankel tries Tight Grip on grass today, and of course Frankel excels with first-time turf entrants, hitting at 25% from 57 such entrants over the last 19 months, for a flat-bet profit of 35%. Tight Grip figures for a nice trip here, breaking from a middle post with two of the expected pace combatants (Kaishu and Danny Templeton) drawn to his inside. Tight Grip dispatched Danny Templeton pretty easily in his debut @ Keeneland, btw. Well-meant colt looks pretty tough in here.

And he actually broke thru the gate prior to the start. He's only the second horse i've ever seen win after doing that. Unreal...
#9 Toy's Toy (20/1 ml)
Maiden comebacker for Rafael DeLeon returns with some outstanding workouts in tow, including a big move over the polytrack on July 22. This horse was claimed out of her last start (back in October of last year) for the discounted price of $28,000 in a MCL 32, and it's extremely noteworthy that she's not entered for a tag here. Apparently DeLeon doesn't want to lose her. DeLeon has only started two horses off the claim since the beginning of last year, but he did win with one of them. He's also showing a winner (from 7 starters) coming back from a 6-month layoff. Not bad numbers, considering the guy has only won with 4 horses all year. I think this horse is worth a shot at what figures to be a very large price.
Good Call.
Thanks
Anyhow, $18.80 on the place ticket and $5.80 on the show.
Good Call
$18.80 to place though...i'll take it.
#6 Ashley's Kitty (5/1 ml)
Hard-trying filly comes into the race with an exceptional drill over the polytrack on July 22, and is actually 3-for-3 in one-turn races. She beat the outstanding sprint filly Sindy With an S and the multiple stakes-placed filly Silver Swallow in her May 13 Railbird win (her last sprint race before today), and those two have continued to very well since then. Either one of them would be big favorites here. Looks like there may be a contested pace here as well, which should set it up nicely for an off-the-pace move like she showed in the Railbird. Tough field here, but i think she's up to the challenge. Should run well.
