What is the major different between the racing form Past Performances and the BRIS past performance ...
Which one is better?

Which One can help me hit more exacta and triples at the track?
What should i be focusing more in ...the actual running time or what a horse run from 4 furlong pole to the finish or overall finish time of each horse?
Should i just stop playing exotic wager and just focus on betting to win place and show because of the lower takeout ?
Can someone help a long time horse player out that is tired of betting 40.00 buck in a race and cashing tickets totaling $30.00
These are the basic question i want to hear about

I'm probably not the best person to answer this, but the one thing the DRF has that BRIS doesn't is the official Beyer speed figures.

I've noticed some nice features in the BRIS PP's that make some things easier to notice such as horses off layoffs, second time of layoff, hot jockeys and trainers, etc.

Each provider of PP's have theier Advantages... I.E. DRF, Brisnet, Equibase, and the there are also the charts.....

It doesn't hurt to know them all but I would suggest really understanding one of them, I personally use the DRF pp's just because thats what i started with and I know them the best!

DRF PP's list trianers stats at the bottom, like 2 off the layoff, dirt, sprint, route to sprint, and so forth, also list the jockey stats.

If you need to know anything about reading the DRF Form just post some questions.... They also have a intro on thier website on how to read the form, but again these are the post that will help this industry grow! Helping new players understand and help out in anyway we can!

    Good Luck!

On your topic of Exotic wagers, They are tougher but thats why they pay better..... Everyone has thier strategy for winning at these wagers, I personally try to limit how much the base of the ticket is by wheeling or keying a horse, I also look for good spots, I handicapp the whole card and look for horses that i really like, IE a race where I think 1 stands out, and Ill wheel him over a handfull of others, and then if the horse is a nice price then i will go with the tri. I use this strategy because with the nice price on top it will pay better.

But usally a winnind day at the track for me is based on how many of my top picks Win or Place because those are my bigger wager of the day. Like you im a novice, been following and wagering on horses for about 6 years now, and I still dont win consitently, but I have fun doing it!

I usually use DRF since it's the most widely available PP you can buy. Most tracks and Vegas casinos that I have visited use DRF. Personal experience says that this is the best PP to learn to read/use. Hope this helps.

Looking at the past performances are only about 20-30% in finding a winner in this game. The pp's have so much info that is way off you wouldn't believe. They forget to tell you when a horse has been gelded, throat surgery, bar shoes and so on. Sometimes they don't mention blinkers on or blinkers off just so many tracks mistakes will happen.

I can tell you one thing watching a race and dvr/tivo tracks you play or watching replay shows by far is the best way to handicapp races. I will be sitting in my office watching HRTV/TVG at small tracks and see a horse that was much the best but had trouble in the stretch and still finished 2nd/3rd/4th and right then and there I make a note in my spreadsheet and add him/her to my stable mail. I will tell you one thing it takes more time than you can imagine to make scores in this game or any other sport IT HAS TO BE A PASSION INSIDE OF YOU TO WIN AT ANY SPORT.

I keep hearing that it's hard to get new / young people to find interest in this sport. That is true because if you took someone to the track for the first time and handed them a FORM they would open it up and say what the hell is this. It looks like greek mythology to most and to us that have found it the most beautiful thing to look at we are so far apart from them it's not even in the same atomsphere. Must people want to sit a slot machine and press a button and watch a wheel spin around and around when actually the results are already over but the wheel is for the attraction and the unknown. Remember people this is a machine!!!!!!

Below are some angles you can put in you back pocket and use them when handicapping and they will help you in plenty ways to become a better handicapper.

    1. First time starter on dirt / especially grass going a route of ground is a very bad wager.

    2. Horses that break there maiden only win at 4% wheeling back. There are exceptions to this as during the prep-races on the Triple Crown trail you might have a field of 10 and 7/8 of them might just broke there maiden so us your best judgment in these cases. It's really strong when a maiden with a MSW or Maiden Clm race and comes right back in against salty Alw horses. Sometimes you might even catch one of them as the favorite and can throw out and make a nice exotic score.

    3. Trainers/Jockeys are crucial in this game that is why you see some of these jocks/trainers at 1/40 & 8/70 and so on. You really need to study the trainers/jocks of the circuits you are playing. Some of these guys are hoorbile at routes, sprints, and especially turf races. Right now Ken McPeek is tearing up the turf at Churchill for one example. Some jocks can buy a win on the weeds.

    4. Purchase a Sire Stat book for 08 and each year following. This is a must when playing the ponies and you can make some nice hits with this book. You have learn how to use many angles in you handicapping, this book will help a ton with the fake tracks, weeds, and 1st time starters. You can get this book at tsnhorse.com and click on the books links at the top toolbar.

    5. Watch the tote board on 1st timers especially from small outfits, I will give you a example is at the Fairgrounds last year going to see Hard Spun for the first time in real life and a little before the race there was a MSW at Gulfstream and Helen Pitts was odds on in a race with plenty blue bloods and trainers by far with more exposure with 1st'ers. I told my buddies you all are looking for something that isn't there, just go make you a wager on the Pitts 1st'er and he breaks and wins by 13 under a hand ride and now he is the best horse in the world (CURLIN), that same day maybe a hour after the race Hard Spun with Pino aboard won the Lecomte under a hand ride what a beautiful day at the races to see two top horses run and one in real life.

Well prime example happend tonight as I was dressing my little girl letting my wife get ready for dinner, I always have horse racing on every tv in the house (I LOVE MY WIFE), I was waiting on the 10th at Churchill and they were showing Golden Gate 7th on the weeds for claimers filles and mares 3 and up for a tag of 20k and so on. Well the 2nd choice in the race was making a nice move on the turn and had no where to run and when a hole finally opened up was totally shut off and the jock wrapped on on her and she finished 2nd to last by 19 lenghts and I bet you won't see that in a form. Let's all put this one in our stable mail and try to make a score on her in the same class or a drop.
