Del Mar - Race 7

#6 Stardom Bound (7/2 ml)

Paasch filly was reputed to be better than barnmate Cosmic Queen (also entered here), and in fact the TVG people were quoting Paasch as saying that she's "better than Diplomat Lady", who was a multiple stakes-winner for Paasch a few years ago. In her debut, Stardom Bound broke slowly and was away last, and from the head-on it appears she hit the gate. Stardom Bound was roughly 15 lengths behind during the early going, and this race was only 5.5 furlongs. She suddenly kicked into gear however and was rallying widest of all around the turn, then poured it on in the stretch and was making up some big-time ground. Just lost by a nose at the wire, while in the process beating a very highly-regarded Hollendorfer filly named Montana Fields (who went off as the 7/5 favorite). Clearly Stardom Bound was much the best that day, and note that Montana Fields returned to post an impressive win on Sunday. Stardom Bound now gets an extra furlong, which she figures to enjoy, and should be much closer to the leaders this time around with any kind of clean break. Also note that Mike Smith has ridden both Cosmic Queen and Stardom Bound in all their prior starts, and has chosen to ride Stardom Bound (who's still a maiden, btw). Talented filly should get a fast pace to run at here, and looks plenty tough today vs. winners.

HRT record:

47 for 150 (31%)

$405.80 mutuels ($8.63 avg)

Well she ran in to traffic and Smith pulled her outside a little too late to catch the leader.

She'll be there one of these trips no doubt.
