Zarkava is the 7/2 (from 5/1) favourite with Coral for the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, following the news that stablemate Montmartre, who had been 4/1 favourite, could miss the Longchamp showpiece. Soldier Of Fortune is the 4/1 second favourite, ahead of his stablemate Duke Of Marmalade at 5/1.

"Montmartre had been the best backed horse in our Arc betting since his superb win in the Grand Prix de Paris, and while it may be some consolation to his connections that, in Zarkava, they still have the Arc favourite, news of his setback will come as a massive blow to his many ante-post supporters," said Coral's David Stevens. "As for the all-conquering Ballydoyle team, in Soldier Of Fortune and Duke Of Marmalade, they have two top-class contenders with which to attempt a follow-up to Dylan Thomas's victory last year," added Stevens.

David Williams of Ladbrokes, who also go 7/2 about Zarkava, added: "The Montmartre news is a huge blow for the Aga Khan and the many punters who backed him after his recent win in France. He's out of our list. "But in Zarkava we still think the Aga Khan has got the best chance of winning the race. She's the major market mover for Longchamp and we're now keen to side with her."

Elsewhere, totesport are offering Monmartre at 5/2 with a run for the Longchamp showpiece. Paul Petrie, totesport spokesman, commented: "This is an interesting development and we have decided to keep Montmartre in the betting but offer him with a run. "Alain de Royer-Dupre obviously has the consolation that he also has the second in the betting but it will be a devastating blow for the race if Montmartre doesn't line up."
