Second-timer for Mott got bet down to 2/1 in his debut, interesting considering that Mott has been pathetic with firsters this year. In the race, Mesa Sunrise sat behind a blazing pace early, one that was considerably faster than Mani Bhavan ran in a stakes race later on the card. Also of note is that the pacesetter Grizzly Peak's workout partner Argyle Pink won the following day. Mesa Sunrise cut nicely into the margin to challenge Grizzly Peak for the lead on the turn, but lugged in greenly and was then left in the dust by the super-impressive winner Capt. Candyman Can, after which Mesa Sunrise was pretty much wrapped up on. Looks like a runner here, and the cutback to 5.5 furlongs should only help.
