from the Courier-Journal:
Saratoga Sinner, the upset winner of Saturday's Grade III Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream, is off the Kentucky Derby trail after coming out of the race with a bone chip in his left knee.
Trainer Eddie Kenneally of Louisville termed the chip a small one and said the Harlan's Holiday colt could resume racing as early as July or August, with Saratoga's Travers Stakes a potential if possibly unrealistic goal.
"It's extremely disappointing," said Kenneally, speaking by phone today. "… It's hard to get one good enough to win some of these major Derby preps. And then to win one, you still have to be lucky enough to keep them sound. We had one that was good enough, but we can't take him there because of this little bone chip we have to take out…. Definitely he fits the profile of a horse who could be a Derby-type horse, but it's unfortunate we can't do it.
"He'll return 100 percent, that's the good part, and he'll be a nice horse. It won't shorten his career or take away from his ability."
Saratoga Sinner, owned by Lally Stable and bred by Brereton Jones, won the Holy Bull in his fourth start and after breaking his maiden at Gulfstream at 1 1/8 miles. He earned a fine 102 BRIS speed figure in the nine-furlong Holy Bull, where he wore down Bear's Rocket for a three-quarters of a length victory.
