JOCKEY QUOTES
MIKE SMITH, STARDOM BOUND, WINNER: I was trying to slow her down going down the backside and get her to relax. She hadnt run in six months, so she was wanting to go. I wasnt concerned around the (far) turn when I was boxed in. I was actually glad to be bottled up really, because I didnt want to ask her to run too early. I figured if I stayed stuck, something would probably open up by the eighth pole. She accelerates so good, its amazing. Shes a dream to ride.
TRAINER QUOTES
BOBBY FRANKEL, STARDOM BOUND: I was a little scared she was going to be a little too sharp, and she was sharp today. She broke as well as she ever has today. She was fresh and she was into the bridle all the way. I was a little concerned, because she didnt drop back like she usually drops back. Shes a little sharper now. Shes a great filly.
Asked about the Santa Anita Derby (Grade I, $750,000, April 4, 1 1/8 miles): Well, youve got to talk to the people that own her. Ive got to think about it. I dont want to stick my neck out right now.
OWNER QUOTES
MIKE IAVARONE OF IEAH STABLES, PART OWNER OF STARDOM BOUND: I dont see why she wouldnt go on (and face the boys in the Santa Anita Derby). I dont know what else she has to prove against the girls. Ill talk it over with Bobby, but I think thats what we want. I think thats what racing wants. This is her race track here. Even the boys are going to have their hands full against her, the way shes doing. Bobby said she was about 75 percent ready.
