Bossert's Analysis
Big Brown wasn't a dual qualifier when he won last year's Kentucky Derby, but 21 of the past 33 Derby winners have been. (NONE IN THE LAST 5-10 YEARS WHEN THE PRICKS WERE USING ROIDS BY DUNCO)

A dual qualifier is a horse rated within 10 pounds of the high weight on the Experimental Free Handicap, which is a hypothetical race compiled by three racing secretaries, and who has a dosage index of 4 or less.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Midshipman was made the high weight at 126 pounds and is also a dual qualifier since his dosage index is 2.37.

The rest of the dual qualifiers still eligible for this year's Derby are Vineyard Haven, Square Eddie, Donativum, Pioneerof the Nile, Westphalia, Coronet of a Baron, I Want Revenge, Terrain, Big Drama, Charitable Man, Believe in Hope, Chocolate Candy, Del Conte, Southern Exchange and West Side Bernie.

Charitable Man is doubtful to make the race as he is recovering from an injury, but the super filly - Stardom Bound - also is a dual qualifier if she decides to face the boys.
Two horses within 10 pounds of Midshipman but who have a dosage higher than 4 are Old Fashioned, the current Derby favorite at 5.22, and Beethoven at 5.86.
