Santa Anita - Race 9
#4 Renegade Storm (3/1 ml)
Another vet scratch here, which is kinda why i went into detail on that subject earlier. In this case, Renegade Storm had been entered on Mar. 29 vs. a barnmate (Compari) that he had just dominated in a team drill, and after the scratch, Compari ended up rolling to an impressive open-lengths win that day. Perhaps trainer Martin Jones thought that he could win with Compari that day, and didn't want to waste two bullets on the same race, opting instead to save Renegade Storm for another race. Well, that race may have been yesterday's La Puenta Stakes, which Renegade Storm was entered in despite still being a maiden. He was on the also-eligible list and didn't draw into the race, so here we are. Suffice to say that in Jones liked this horse enough to enter him in the stakes race yesterday, then he'll probably be tough vs. maidens (particularly taking into account what Compari did back on Mar. 29). Bejarano (25% for Jones) picks up the mount here, and this one looks tough.
HRT record:
54 for 190 (28%)
$461.80 ($8.55 avg)
