Del Mar - Race 4
#9 Warren's Alohamoon (12/1 ml)
Gotta give the credit to 2W2P2S, he's the one that pointed this out to me. This horse got squeezed and took up badly shortly after leaving the gate last time, and dropped back to last. Made a pretty decent move up the backstretch while down on the rail, and it looked like he ran out of room and had to tap on the brakes a little bit. Made another decent move while still along the rail into the stretch, and got within about two lengths of the leaders. He still didn't have much room as there were several horses in front of him, and he was unable to make up any real ground through the stretch, but i was impressed with his performance up to that point. Not bad for a maiden-claimer. Particularly when compared to his previous races, which were downright awful. Looks like this horse may like the polytrack, and he could well move forward today. Should have a clear run from the outside, and the cutback in distance should help as well. Worth noting that the winner of that last race (Afleet's Desire) came back to win yesterday.
HRT record:
18 for 56 (32%)
$159.20 mutuels ($8.84 avg)
