Quality Road Update: 'Feeling Good'. Quality Road jogged a mile and three-quarters on Belmont Park’s fast training track this morning and remains on schedule for a start in the Kentucky Derby if all goes well.

Quality Road overcame a quarter-crack on his right-hind hoof that was discovered after his track-record performance in Gulfstream Park’s Florida Derby, where he covered nine furlongs in 1:47.72 on March 28.

While that quarter-crack healed, another one, this time on the right-front hoof, was spotted two days ago.

“There was no blood and he’s sound,” said hoof specialist Ian McKinlay after the gallop. “He’s feeling good and I couldn’t be happier.”

McKinlay will place a patch and a drain on the half-inch crack early tomorrow before Quality Road gallops. If all remains on schedule, he'll breeze Monday morning and depart for Louisville on Tuesday

Three Works After the Break. After the morning's renovation break, Papa Clem, Desert Party and West Side Bernie all worked at Churchill Downs.

Papa Clem was the first to go, breezing seven furlongs in 1:29.20 (1/1). His splits were :12.60, :24.80, :37.00, :49.60 and 1:02.40 for five furlongs, thus showing a final quarter-mile in :26.80.

Desert Party went five furlongs in :59.60 (2/30), not quite outworking his Godolphin stable mate Regal Ransom, who went earlier in the morning. Desert Party ran through fractions of :12.60, :24.60, :36.40 and :48.20. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:12.40 and seven in 1:25.80.

Finishing up just yards before Desert Party, West Side breezed four furlongs in :48.20 (3/40) after initial marks of :12.20, :24.00, :36.20 and :48.20. He went out five furlongs in 1:02 and was passed by Desert Party as both of them galloped down the backstretch.

Also making appearances on the track after the renovation break were Friesan Fire, who galloped with trainer Larry Jones on his back, and Pioneerof the Nile, who also galloped. Win Willy and Flying Private were also spotted on the track.

At Palm Meadows, Dunkirk worked for the third time since his second-place finish in the Grade I Florida Derby, breezing five furlongs in 1:01 (1/3). Dunkirk is due at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.

Regal Ransom Rockets, Musket Man Breezes. The first two Kentucky Derby workouts at Churchill Downs today were put in by Regal Ransom and Musket Man, the first one coming shortly after 6:00 a.m.

Under exercise rider Bob Chapman in near-darkness, Regal Ransom broke off from the 5/8 pole and breezed five furlongs on :59.20 (1/30) after registering splits of :12.40, :23.80, :35.00 and :47.00. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:12 40. Regal Ransom was flying around the turn.

Musket Man, working in company about 30 minutes later, stuck a head in front near the end of the five-furlong move that was clocked in 1:01.60 (9/30), breezing. His splits were :24.80 and :36.80. Derby jockey Eibar Coa was aboard.

Meanwhile, I Want Revenge was out on the track shortly after Regal Ransom and went to the paddock for schooling. Square Eddie walked once around the track with a lead pony before heading back to the barn, and Chocolate Candy jogged on the track and also made a trip to the paddock. Hold Me Back jogged and galloped during the morning's first session of training.

Rachel Alexandra, the presumptive favorite for the Kentucky Oaks, galloped and still looks very much on top of her game.
