KP: I think Beethoven still has a shot at the Derby at a long price, I agree with it's to early, but he is 2-2 at Churchill Downs...A contender for sure!!!

Jockey agent Angel Cordero Jr. told THOROUGHBRED TIMES staff reporter Jeff Lowe on Monday that John Velazquez will pick up the mount on Mr. Hot Stuff for the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1).
The two-time Eclipse Award winner as outstanding jockey was originally slated to ride Quality Road on May 2, but a quarter crack has sidelined the Florida Derby Presented by Blackberry (G1) winner.
Velazquez has never ridden Mr. Hot Stuff, who finished third in both the Santa Anita Derby (G1) and Sham Stakes (G3) for trainer Eoin Harty.
