Quality Road All But Out of Belmont. Quality Road continues to have problems that have taken him out of a routine training regimen.
In a report filed last night at DRF.com, trainer Jimmy Jerkens said Quality Road popped an abscess on the bulb of his right front foot on Friday, inside the location of his quarter crack. Quality Road had trained for three days but, according to the report, he won't return to the track until an unnamed date next week. Before that happens, he would be reshod and possibly receive a new patch on his quarter crack.
Before the abscess appeared, Quality Road's shoes had been pulled in an effort to give him relief from soreness. The report also says the son of Elusive Quality is being treated with antibiotics.
On the day after the Kentucky Derby, Jerkens said of Quality Road's prospects to compete in the Belmont Stakes: Everything will have to go perfectly.
