Seattle callup Doug Fister comes in with an incredible 7/1 strikeout-to-walk ratio in Triple A over 17 starts (and 5 relief appearances), and yet he had an average-at-best ERA and WHIP of 3.81 and 1.34. That indicates he's getting the ball over the plate very consistently, but is less-than-overpowering and so the hitters are putting those strikes in play at a very high rate. And if minor league batters are doing that, i would think that major league batters should be able to get a pretty good bead on this guy. Incidentally, Fister did work an inning in relief against the Rays a few days ago, and allowed a hit and a walk in one inning of work (with a strikeout).
As for Danks, in his lone appearance againt the M's this year he lasted only 4 innings, allowing 9 baserunners and 5 earned runs.
I think 8.5 looks kinda low here.
