Apparently, you can also bet on Sea The Stars breeding exploits. Those Europeans really like to gamble.......

from Bettingzone:

Rip Van Winkle is into 7/4 favourite with Sky Bet for the Breeders' Cup Classic following the news that Sea The Stars has been retired.

The six-time Group One winner had been in the mix for the Classic but connections have decided to call time on his career.

Sea The Stars' trainer John Oxx had intimated after his latest win in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe that retirement was likely for the son of Cape Cross, and it was confirmed in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.

It's led to a hasty revision of the Classic prices, with Sky Bet cutting Rip Van Winkle into 7/4 from 3/1.

Zanyatta is 9/2, Summer Bird is 7/1 and it's 10/1 bar.

Coral offer 15/8 about Aidan O'Brien's charge.

Their David Stevens said: "Sea The Stars has given a huge boost to the sport of flat racing this summer, and he captured the imagination of punters across the country with his sequence of top-level wins.

"His Arc win was unique in that even the bookmakers were cheering him home, despite his victory costing us a small fortune, and we at Coral were particularly thrilled when he won one a vintage renewal of the Coral-Eclipse in July.

"Looking ahead, having chased him home three times this year, Rip Van Winkle will not have to face Sea The Stars at Santa Anita, and is favourite to give the champion's form one further boost."

Paddy Power, who are refunding all losing ante-post bets placed on Sea The Stars for the Classic, offer an interesting market.

The Irish layers are also offering odds of 25/1 that Sea The Stars produces a Derby winner from his first crop of foals.

Paddy Power said, "It's sad to see the back of him but he has nothing more to prove. Let's just hope he's more Sadlers Wells than Cigar or Gorgeous George (Washington)!"

William Hill take a slightly different line and offer 12/1 that any of his first crop wins any of the British classics.

They are also betting on what the initial stud fee will be for Sea The Stars.

Between 90,000 and 110,000 euros is the 6/4 favourite, over 110,000 is on offer at 7/4, while less than 90,000 is available at 2/1.
