Star filly Zenyatta's preferred target in the Breeders' Cup will be a career-defining first run against colts in the Classic, according to the pre-entry cards for next weekend's meeting at Santa Anita, which were released on Wednesday.

The 13-time winner, who has only ever competed against fillies and mares, finally looks set to take on the likes of Rip Van Winkle, Mine That Bird and Twice Over in the 1m2f Grade 1 rather than taking on her own sex in the Ladies' Classic, which is her second preference.

The publication of the latest entries clarifies the picture for the final fields in the $25.5m two-day festival, starting on November 6.

There are 16 pre-entries for the Classic, for which the maximum field is 14. But two runners, the Aidan O'Brien-trained Mastercraftsman and Chocolate Candy, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, both have first preferences of the Dirt Mile.
