Breeders' Cup Classic runner-up Gio Ponti will race in 2010 and is being pointed toward next spring's Dubai World Cup, owner Castleton Lyons said in a release Friday.

Gio Ponti won four Grade I races this year before running a close second to Zenyatta in last Saturday's Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita.

The 4-year-old colt trained by Christophe Clement is the leading candidate for champion turf honors this season.

"Gio Ponti will eventually become a very worthy addition to the stallion ranks at Castleton Lyons, but in the meantime for all of his fans out there we are thrilled to declare our intentions for 2010 with the Dubai World Cup as an exciting early season objective," Castleton Lyons President Shane Ryan said.
